The Female Body by Margaret Atwood Review

Margaret Atwood amplifies her experiences by addressing the piece “The Female Body” as a feminist revolt for masculinity. Feminism as often labeled as an underground revolutionary does not suggest obliterating society but tries to defend herself from deprivation from liberality. Atwood’s magnificent piece portrays seeking by establishing equal opportunities for women. It also describes how man and women perceive the female body. Moreover, Atwood tries to relay her insights by constructing different series of vignettes in her essay “The Female Body”. As I am trying to dissect and understand the essay I can see various characterizations by describing the female body. The vulgarity showed an indirect relation to her movement and rather showed a good starting point to present her arguments. The second paragraph describes how a women embrace fashion by wrapping her bodies with numerous accessories. “The basic Female Body comes with the following accessories…” It led me to think that Atwood is trying to show how women are observed to society and in man’s peripheral –as an attractive toy for-sex. In this regard, the next vignette tried to discuss the female body made of transparent plastic and lights up when you plug it in as a passive object.

Atwood versatility in writing feminism essays was seen on the late part of the piece as she try to completely itemize the female body into different spectra of analysis. Women are used as fancy accessories for commercials and products and portray dominance of masculine to feminine as they rule out. She shared her various opinions about the role of males in the society and she purposely tried to compare it to females.

As Atwood concludes her essay with the explanation of how men feel when they have no control over a female, she satirizes all aspects of masculine emotions in regards to how their actions correspond to their randomness.

Truly, Feminism’s act of advocating social, political and all other rights of women equal to those of men is not necessary as of now. The act of changing the perception of people to female is the challenge.

God has handed me some pretty big challenges. Challenges, one might question why we are given some of the toughest situations in our everyday life. Your life is flowing along smoothly, things are great, one couldn’t ask for more. You tell people “My life could not be any better. God really is taking care of me.”

A Labyrinth

I am weak, I was weak –a common denominator of people in my drought situations, as I traverse my path of self-confessed inexistence. The irrevocable and fiery words I searched out on my childhood are among the dims of my past. I was raised being an insensitive person. I was not a child normally seen on meandering roads, I felt so irrelevant to this world, and I was labeled a socio-psycho pathetic loser.

Society has been my dictating affliction and has been my all-day all-night suffering. Aside from being so degraded with these social injustice, I think being physic-vulnerable is my later curse. I cannot cope up with everyone, I was like a helpless person making an indifference in my life. I was like a person searching for my soul in a void of air from my squeezing lungs. I am so weak that I can’t be competitive and viable. I was weak and helpless.

A Conquest

Despite the perfect picture families that always seem to loom over us on television, posters and bill boards, there are many more complexities and dynamics to families than all smiles and laughters. I am fortunate that I can always lean my head to my family in times of inevitable struggles. Having a compromising and understanding family is my ultimate reason of being tough in life’s situations. In times of drought I should be abundant, that because of them I can no longer be fragile.

An Abnegation

Being a blessing to others is being selfless. as a quote says that "Ignorance can be educated and stupidity lasts forever". And with this, I learned that sharing your knowledge could just be one of the very fundamental ways of helping others that you need not to educate along four walls of your classrooms. But by just means of giving out your view and exchanging of ideas could be a fast aid to ignorance.

In the one hand, educating yourself is a necessary, so you can stay ahead of the curve.

A Surmount

One thing that I have learned in the very rough course of life is being brave. Brave that can lead to a threat to your future and being brave of committing mistakes. It takes a pale of bravery and courage to dealing and overcoming with the saddest circumstances, yet it amounts to a pool of tears and regret of not trying such. I learned that taking risks could be so comforting and accepting defeat and mistakes are good catalyst for change. Combatimg my childhood desolation has been one of my greatest triumphs of my life.

An Endeavor

Focusing up with my studies has always been my journey as of today.I am currently taking my pre-med course and hopefully be a good doctor someday. I have met a lot of downs in these few pages of my chapters. I have invested a lot to this that it became my life. I learned to venture my studies as I cannot completely compensate with my weaknesses in life. It was as if my vigor and my present tribulation. Learning is a process, it could be a good precursor of battling up with my labyrinths of life and so, it continues to be my endeavor in my existence.

Having a dilemma in any life situation could be the saddest thing a man could experience. However overcoming these barriers to our goals leads us in a fulfilling success. It makes us tougher, stronger and bolder.

A Sense of NATIONALISM

It has constantly been a practice of Filipinos to sing this recognizable piece of music every 12th of June which signifies our undying patriotism in commemoration of the proclamation of the independence of the Philippines which our forefathers have struggled for centuries. Hence, it is heartbreaking sometimes to reflect, that only on this date that we are loyal and faithful to our realm. Moreover, the blind patriotism and nationalism is somewhat problematic and flawed and have misguided us to achieve our own truthful sovereignty and honest liberty.

Our nation is checkered black and white, if there are privileged there are those deprived. Rich are kept rich and poor become poorer. The unjust, prejudice and inequality is palpable. We are suppressed with the elitist and purposely kept in the dark, to sugarcoat and boast their unjustifiable hypocrisy.

Notably, we were pacified with different occupations that resulted to tremendous devastation of our rich culture and primarily one of the reasons why we struggle to strive for our national identity. We cannot deny the fact that we have modified some of our traditions that we have molded from our conquerors and until today we are patronizing and legalizing just to proclaim our nationalism.

Do we really deserve independence? A bizarre question that we sporadically hear but hopelessly seemed to be no legitimate answer.

In achieving such Independence, there has to be an unyielding foundation of nationalistic principles. There should have be a flexible government with resilient society. And finally, the preservation of culture has also to be well thought-out.

As we were to analyze there is an enormous distinction of nationalism and patriotism. Nationalism as it is completely loyalty and devotion to a certain nation with oozing swollen-pride, in the other hand, patriotism is the love and honoring a nation knowing its flaws and striving for betterment. “Don’t be too harsh to the people blame the government” as they say, way back the days of chieftains where life is simple up to now that we are experiencing our hellish government where we are tormented for years. Truly, government is a springboard for a good economic and political status, however, if mismanaged nation will collapse. We can obviously compare the situation of the Philippines to the whitewashing of the Americans. The denial of one’s ethnicity or cultural background of characters to become whiter (often observed in American movies) is somewhat offensive to the rule of democracy. How about the slavery, sexism, segregation, racism and many more are these fair to this so called freedom? And what about enormous unemployment, serious poverty, prostitution, graft and corruption, when will this catastrophe end?
